Top 11 Proven Ways to Gain Weight Fast

There are a lot of ways to gain weight, but which of them work? Do you know?

I certainly didn’t when I weighed 124 pounds. Today I weigh over 150 pounds and I’m still gaining weight and putting on muscle.

It all comes down to some very simple principles. This is nothing fancy, but it works. There is one caveat though: you have to be willing to discipline yourself to eat more.

With that said, here are the top 11 ways to gain weight fast:

1. Know Thyself

No one likes to count calories, but one of the fastest ways to gain weight is to know how many calories you need, and how much you are eating on a daily basis.

I’ve heard many skinny guys – and girls – say that they are eating so much, yet they cannot seem to go up in weight.

The problem is almost always that they are eating too few calories. A great way to keep track is to use a free service called FitDay.

You don’t have to keep counting calories forever, but if you do it for a few days, you will see how much you’re getting.

If you want to gain weight, use this formula: 18 x (bodyweight in lbs). If you weigh 130 pounds, that means you should be getting at least 18 x 130 = 2340 calories on a daily basis.

2. Lift Heavy Things

If you just eat more, you’ll get fat, and I hope that’s not your goal.

One of the best ways to increase your weight gain is to lift weights. Yes, that includes women. Lifting weights is healthy and it helps you get a fit body.

If you’re afraid of getting big muscles, don’t worry, you won’t.

When you put pressure on your muscles – and your whole body – you will naturally become hungrier, and you will have a much easier time eating more food.

3. Eliminate Cardio

One of the best ways to gain weight fast is to sit on your ass all day, except for the times when you’re lifting weights.

That’s not always practical, but you definitely do not want to add in any running or excess cardio, because it will only keep you from putting on more weight.

You will get plenty winded from your weight training, so no worries on the health side.

4. Eat Breakfast

It’s easy to skip breakfast. I remember when I weighed 20-30 pounds less. I skipped breakfast consistently, or I just had some toast with jam or something similar.

Get your body used to eating something big for breakfast, such as eggs and bacon, an omelet with minced meat, or anything that packs calories.

It may feel weird in the beginning because you’re not used to it, but your body will adapt, and so will you, because you will start feeling better almost immediately.

5. Eat More Often

This is a no-brainer, right? Eat more often and you shall gain lots o’ weight!

It does sound simple, I agree, but most people don’t do it. The fact of the matter is that you have to stuff yourself if you want to gain weight fast.

We skinny people are used to eating less and we have fast metabolisms, so we have to get our body used to weighing more and eating more.

A simple way to do that is to eat every 2-3 hours.

6. Eat Natural

All of this does not mean you have the license to consume all the junk and processed food you want.

Well, you could do that, but your health would suffer.

What you want to do is stick to natural foods, such as grass-fed beef, organic chicken, wild fish and game, fruits, vegetables, yams, and sweet potatoes, just to name a few options.

All that new weight is of no use if you aren’t healthy.

7. Avoid the Unnatural

I’m talking about cookies, candy, ice cream, hamburgers, pizza, and the gang.

Now, it’s okay to eat your favorite foods now and then. It’s not like you’re trying to lose weight, which is when you should be even more strict, so here and there is fine.

I personally prefer pizza over candy. Pizza isn’t healthy, but sugar is even worse.

8. Blend Your Food

One of my favorite ways to get more calories is to simply blend a lot of stuff and chug it down.

A simple smoothie you can make that is easily closing in on 1000 calories is:

  • 3 Bananas
  • 2 Scoops of Protein Powder (optional)
  • Berries
  • Peanut butter
  • 2 Raw eggs
  • Coconut milk

Amazingly delicious and full of weight boosting calories. Don’t worry about the raw eggs btw. Buy organic and you will never have any issues.

I’ve been eating raw eggs for over half a decade without any problems whatsoever. Most of the salmonella hype is just that… hype.

9. Drink Milk

I’m not a huge fan of pasteurized milk (I prefer raw), but it’s not it is going to kill you if you consume milk for a few months.

There’s something called GOMAD, which is an acronym for Gallon of Milk a Day. It takes some getting used to, but it’s an additional 2000+ calories on a daily basis.

If you add a lot of normal food on top of that with weight training, you will gain weight fast.

10. Leverage Digestive Enzymes

Your digestive system will have trouble in the beginning. To combat this I recommend you pick up some high-quality digestive enzymes and take them whenever you’re eating.

They’ll help in digesting your food and getting the necessary nutrients to your body.

Another side-benefit is that they will make you hungrier because the food you just ate is digested much faster.

11. Be Consistent

This is not going to happen overnight, and you will have to get your body used to eating more food.

Once you’ve started gaining weight however, you will naturally become hungrier, so you will have an easy time maintaining your weight.

The toughest part is in the beginning when it feels like you almost have to force food down your throat.

If you eat big and lift weights, you can gain a lot of weight in a fairly short time. Think 10-25 pounds in 4-8 weeks.

It all depends on you.
