You can probably find hundreds of ways to lose belly fat if you do a simple Google search, but the problem is that most of those ways to lose belly fat do not work.

The most effective ways to lose stomach fat are also the most simple.

The problem is that most people dismiss the most fundamental tips because of their simplicity, but that’s not you, right?

1. Hydrate Thyself

One of the most important ways to lose belly fat is to drink enough water. I know, you’ve heard it a million times before, but dehydration can literally halt your fat loss.

We don’t want that, do we? I didn’t think so 😉

Do your best to get around 3-4 liters (1 gallon) of pure, healthy water into your body. I like to keep one liter (I’m European) at my desk when I’m working.

2. Avoid Excessive Carbs

You will find a lot of different ways to lose belly fat online and offline, but one of the best and yet controversial is to eat a low-carb diet.

It has been proven over and over again to melt fat off your body. If you haven’t done it before, it will take some getting used to.

Yes, you will have to give up cookies, ice cream, and those yummy, but ultimately devastating foods.

3. Eat Natural

Eat what nature makes, not what comes in a box.

That means things like:

  • Grass-fed beef
  • Organic chicken
  • Wild fish and game
  • Vegetables
  • Berries

If you want to lose belly and stomach fat, you should stay away from the fruit. They’re fine to have once a week, but other than that I would be very careful.

4. Move Your Body

When first start on your flat stomach journey, I don’t recommend you pick up an extreme exercise routine.

Why?

Because in the beginning, you will adjust your diet and your calories, which in turn will lead to fat loss without doing any exercise (if you’re doing things right).

When you keep track of your weight – and measurements – you can see when your stomach fat loss stops, which is when you want to add in exercise to give it a push.

5. Lift Weights

If you’re a woman, you’re probably thinking that you don’t want to get huge muscles, right?

But training with weights is huge for your metabolism and the more muscle mass you have, the more fat you burn. Look at your muscles as fat burning factories.

You will have a very hard time building muscles that are too big. It’s just not going to happen if you’re a woman.

If you’re a man on the other hand, you probably don’t even care, so get in the gym!

6. Eat 5-6 Small Meals

Okay, so you don’t necessarily have to eat five to six meals. Four will do just fine as well.

When you eat a low-carb diet that contains a lot of healthy meat and vegetables, you will feel full and satisfied, which most fat loss diets can’t give you, while also improving your health.

The reason I say five to six meals is that it’s easier to break them down and eat smaller meals. It’s also easier on your digestion.

7. Zzzz….

We live in a busy society. We have too much work and not enough time, right?

It’s easy to borrow hours from your Zzz’s, but please make sure you get at least 7.5-9 hours of proper, deep sleep per night.

There’s a lot going on when you sleep, and if you skip it, your body will go into panic-mode, which means you will have a very hard time losing your belly fat.

8. De-Stress

Not getting enough sleep is stressful for your body, but so is eating an unhealthy diet, working too much, or even worrying about what’s going to happen in the future.

I deal with stress by breathing and meditating. It’s now always easy for me to shut down my mind, which tends to be overactive, but I do my best.

Try different things and see what works for you. Maybe you enjoy reading books, like I do, or maybe you enjoy yoga.

9. Eliminate Fruits (Yup!)

Like I mentioned above, if you want to lose belly fat, you should eliminate fruits from your diet. They are high in sugar (yes, it’s natural, but it doesn’t help with fat loss), and they help your body store even more fat.

I know there are people out there that have had success with the raw food diet, which usually consists of nothing but fruits and vegetables.

That’s cool, but they usually lose a lot of muscle mass and end up looking skinny. There are easier ways to do this.

The simple rule is: avoid fruits most days.

10. Keep Tabs

It’s crucial that you keep track of how you’re doing.

Take pictures, weigh yourself, and take measurements of your waist, thighs and so on. Do this every week.

Why?

It will help you know what works and what doesn’t. If your fat loss stops one week ,you can step it up a notch and throw in exercise, or play with your diet.

11. Increase Fat Loss in Steps

You do not have to go all-out when you begin. One of the best ways to lose belly fat is one step at a time.

I mentioned this above; what you want to do is start by adjusting your diet and lowering your calories a bit. Don’t worry, you won’t go hungry, because when you eat low-carb you eat a lot of fat and protein, which will keep you extremely satisfied.

When you’ve done all you can with your diet and you stop losing belly fat – and body fat – you simply throw in some walking, lifting weights, and so on.

12. Have Fun

If you don’t have fun, you’ll probably quit along the way, unless you’re like me.

I am so driven by my goal of having a six-pack that I’m okay with disciplining myself through some of the rough times.

But if you like to have fun, then don’t worry about it. You don’t have to be 110% strict to make this work, all you have to do is be consistent.

One great way to get your metabolism geared up and those calories burning is to do small exercise throughout your day.

You could do squats, push-ups, and other bodyweight strength training exercises.

I personally have a kettlebell in the house that I use from time to time. I like doing kettlebell swings. They work your whole body and you can easily get an easy 10-15 minutes in.

14. Plan Your Meals

If the low-carb way of eating is new for you, you have to plan ahead.

If you’re anything like me, you will fall into your old habits. If I don’t plan ahead and learn some familiar recipes, I’ll just eat what I’ve always eaten, which isn’t good.

So one of the ways to lose belly fat is to plan ahead; it doesn’t have to be fancy, just think about what you’re going to eat and go from there.

A typical day for me might look like this:

  • Breakfast: Omelet with Vegetables
  • Snack: Whey Protein Powder Shake
  • Lunch: Salmon with Vegetables
  • Snack: A Mix of Berries
  • Dinner: A Big Avocado Salad with Tuna

Simple!

15. Don’t Shop Hungry

Whatever you do, do not under any circumstances go to the supermarket when you’re hungry. Whenever I do this, I feel myself floating towards the chocolate, candy, and cookie shelves.

I can’t help myself!

The human body wasn’t built for resisting food, so it will grab anything it can. Make sure you eat (a lot) before you go shopping so you can think somewhat logically.

16. Binge Once A Week (The Big Reward)

Yup, you don’t need glasses. You are allowed to eat whatever you want one day of the week.

However, I recommend you not go overboard with it. It’s cool if you want to eat a pizza, hamburger, or even have some ice cream, but don’t stuff yourself the whole day.

I usually like to wake up, have my omelet, then my protein shake, and then I go for a session in the gym. Afterward I might go get a pizza and maybe some kind of sweets.

So this is more like one binge afternoon a week, and it is best done after a heavy or hard workout, because your muscles and body will suck up most of what you put in.

This will also keep your body and metabolism on edge, so you will keep burning fat, while also keeping you mentally happy.

17. Be Cool With Yourself

You will fall off the horse, so don’t worry.

Perfection doesn’t exist, unless your name is Zeus, so go easy on yourself. Know that you will probably mess up at some point.

We all make mistakes, but it is the ones that keep doing their best that get amazing results.
